Paint Night!

Anne had the brilliant idea of signing us up for a “paint night.”  The class is held at the Old Spaghetti Factory.  An artist guides us through the process of painting a particular piece of art while we can drink wine and laugh at our attempts at creativity.  It was so much fun!  I had …

Apple Picking 2014

We did this outing two years ago and had a fabulous time.  We visited the same orchard this year and also had a great time, but it wasn’t quite as wonderful.  Two years ago the orchard was full of many different varieties of apples, the majority of them ripe and gorgeous.  This year there were …

Welcome Fall!

The last day of summer was also our last hot day in the eighties (phew!).  Apparently Seattle just finished up its second hottest summer on record.  Bleh.  This week temps dropped into the sixties with lovely, dark rain.  That’s more like it.  The girls are even in long sleeves again.

Bon Voyage, Mémé!

We had Mémé over for dinner last night.  Today she flies to Paris for two weeks (with friends).  We will miss her, but hope she has a wonderful trip.  Bon voyage, adventurous Mémé!

Easier Week

This week wasn’t nearly as hectic as last week.  I actually had moments that were mine and I appreciated that.  Holly continues to be a delightful but exhausting child (which is why I need moments to myself to recharge).  I honestly think that she and I would both enjoy having her in school full-time which …

My two beauties before school this morning. I think it’s safe to say that I do not have our new school rhythm down yet.  For some reason, I had it in my mind that with Holly in school for an extra hour three mornings a week this year, I would have LOADS of free time. …

School Updates

This morning I planned to take a quick picture of both girls for the blog.  A complaint had been issued last night by phone that I need to update (grandmothers can be very pushy), so after making eggs and toast, packing two lunches, dressing both girls and doing their hair, I was hoping to squeeze in a …

First Day of Preschool (age four)

In Holly’s words this morning, “I’M SO EXCITED!!!”  This child was extremely disappointed last week when big sister got to start school and she did not.  She has been waiting for this day for most of the summer really.  Holly loves school.  Last year she went two mornings a week for two and a half …

Duncan goes on a walk about.

Actually the title of this post should be “Duncan runs for his life.”  Oy, it has been a long night and a long day.  Last night the “party boys” who moved in behind us this summer decided to blast their music at 1:30 AM and drunkenly hoot and holler into the night.  The police were …

First Day of Fourth Grade!

Linlee was very excited.  We met her teacher last week and she seemed great.  Linlee requested a yellow dress (and headband) for the first day of school because she likes to pretend that she is a bee and the school is a hive.  (Actually, she asked if she can wear her yellow dress to the …
